@professor.steph: Waaaaait who said that?! It’s the family estrangement ghost 👻🤣❤️🩹 Jk. Let this be a reminder of radical acceptance — i’m not approving or condemning your choice. I’m just encouraging you to be present with and accept your current reality. You made the best choices at the time that you could with the tools you had at your disposal. Those choices often had negative impacts on your children, even when you didn’t want them to. Your children have spoken to you about how that has hurt them and you now have the choice to do something about it. Choosing to reconcile and repair with your children DOES mean that you will have to face inordinate amounts of pain and navigate through it so that you can reach your child. And parents are doing that every single day it is possible and I know that it is possible because I bear witness to it every single day every single day I see parents fight through their pain and parental shame so that they can hold parental availability and openness to their children who are hurt and distrustful and scared and longing for a parent, but don’t know if they really have one. You can do that you can be that be the parent you always needed, but didn’t have be that strong stronger, wiser other. If you want to repair with your child, but you don’t know how to navigate the shame, overwhelme and despair, my emotions 101 class that I have running in my online therapy school, the attachment Academy is a good place to start. ##estanged##nocontact##estrangedadultchildren##family##familyiasues##gentleparenting##parents##parent##parenting##parentingtips##childhood##childhoodtrauma##therapy##therapytok##therapistsontiktok##MentalHealth

is really nc the answer, or setting boundries until you both can work thru it? I'm sure your parent didn't abandon you when you were learning. we are all on this earth to walk each other home..not to abandon each other.

Hi, a mom who had to listen to the things that negatively impacted my kiddo. I would never choose to go "no contact" so I listened, acknowledged, and promised to do better. And I do, and we're still very close 💜

🥲🥲🥲🥲
As a child, it's really hard to let go of the idea of the relationship I could have had with my mom.
I feel like in my heart of hearts I would wait forever...
But it's just not good for me to keep on waiting for something that might never come (and to no fault of my own)

And sometimes taking accountibility does not guarantee NC ends. The AC has their own life. We have to accept.

And even if/when you do take accountability they still may make the choice to go no contact and thats their right. No contact adult child here, and Mom with no contact adult child here. I didnt break the cycle for my first 4 children. I respect her no contact. I understand. I am no contact with my Mom too.

Part of the difficulty is that many of those parents had an authoritarian relationship with their children and count on authoritarian techniques to maintain the relationship when the kids are adults. Which often “works.” If it doesn’t “work,” they are unwilling to bring themselves to try anything else.

I was already NC for years with my brother before I went NC with my mother. she argued against that because "it reflects poorly on her". the more she pressed the more soul searching she demanded of me, the more I also examined why she would take it personally. I saw her complicity and support of home violence.

Haven’t spoken to my mum in 3+ years. I was fine with it. I am now 5 months post partum and find myself grieving the mother i deserved. It’s so hard.

I am so desperately sad for the little girl my mum was. That little girl would be horrified to learn she went through hell for her adult self to go on to destroy everything she touched. For my mother, accountability looks like a meek ‘sorry’ and never mentioning it again.

My ex would say “tell me what to do/ what you want me to do” but then that only leads to resentment on his part.
