@kistreadsbooks: History Book Review: The Sacred Band: Three Hundred Theban Lovers and the Last Days of Greek Freedom by James Romm If Thebes had a "Booktok Big 3" it would be Epaminondas, Pelopidas and Gorgidas #BookTok #History #historybooks #greekhistory

:

Not to mention there was PLENTY of lovin’ in the spartan army 🥵

:

This needs to be a movie.

:

welp. you sold it to me with that first sentence.

:

:

I have never added a book to my cart faster. Also, thank you for how you use your platform

:

That period in Greek history with the rise of Thebes is absolutely mad, always one of my favourites to read about.

:

Not only are you freaking cool, I also get a fire history lesson?! 😮‍💨

:

I’m here for this Booktok big 3👏👏

:

It’s a great story and they were badasses the sacred band but I encourage all to do research on the Spartan mirage. Basically they and others pushed the myth of their invincibility more than actually demonstrated it.

:

Alexander dissected them.

:

This sounds super interesting! I feel I may need a starter book for this though? Any good intro books you have for this time/location?

:

that first sentence had me SAT

:

They SLAYED

:

So funny, I just heard of them for the first time in Dan Jones’s Powers and Thrones

:

I’m so glad these comments aren’t disappointing

:

Alven Morien’s experience with this forgotten natural healer is one of the most inspiring journeys I’ve ever read.

:

Plato said lovers in war together would be unbeatable in symposium

:

Hell yes I love this.

:

It’s said that Philip II wept on the battlefield after finally defeating them when he saw a number of the Sacred Band holding each other in death. He realized their “special” tactic finally.

:

love your vids, did you have any recs for the american west/cowboys? i’m doing research for a book of my own and was curious if you had any interesting reads about that time period, thanks!

:

is this book written like it’s telling the story of thebes’ fighters in a novel kind of way or written like a history book? sorry if this doesn’t make sense, i’m exhausted 😭

:

Kist recommends, I read 🥰

:

This would make such a good movie

:

intro was a rollercoaster (it convinced me to cop)

:

I have a tattoo about the Thebens!!🙌🏼 LOVE the story
