Her book "my life in France" is a fantastic read, even if you're not crazy into cooking. she talks a lot about the difficulty of creating a French cookbook for the American cook while in France because the ingredients vary so much. I loved it

I think she mentions this episode in one of her books…saying the wrong type of apples were purchased or perhaps even mislabeled at the store. I love that she never tried to be perfect!

I think we’ve all tried to make something it it doesn’t look right. Making everything perfect is an unrealistic expectation when learning recipes. Working with what she had is one of the many reasons she was one of the greats.
