Don’t listen to the peeps that say Columbia is “scary” or “unsafe.” It’s a city with the same kind of crime as anywhere else and neighborhoods are neighborhoods. Check out Shandon and Devine street areas. Anywhere on main is great. Soda city market on saturdays. The rooftop at Hendrix. So many cute places for a city this size!

All cities have crimes!! Columbia is wonderful and a gem of South Carolina! Devine street is boujee shopping and some cutie stuff! It will be hot yes but it is fully escapable. Soda city, walking the river walk, barre, five points, trenholm plaza all of the above!

My parents live in Columbia you have to try kaminskis it’s a dessert bar with the best espresso martinis and a lot of good shopping downtown the crime isn’t as bad as people make it sound

jack browns has the best burgers and they have trivia and bingo nights almost every week, they post the themes on their insta! the riverwalk is gorggg but can get crowded i would recommend owens field for a walk/run!!

You were right about it feeling like a swamp in Columbia this time of year! Other than that, it sounds like you’ll be in the Shandon area which is a pretty safe neighborhood. Azalea and Piecewise are two good coffee shops! Lots of shopping and yummy restaurants between Devine St, Five Points, Main St. and the Vista. Trenholm plaza is also super close, it has a Sephora, homegoods, Anthropologie, Lulu, etc. Check out Soda City on Saturday mornings too! Hope you enjoy Cola!!

I’ve leaved her my whole life and love it so so much!!! Groucho’s is an amazing lunch spot and trenholm plaza has great shopping!!

You HAVE to go to the Oyster Bar on Park St (not Pearlz). They have 2 rows of bench seating in the back and shuck oysters right in front of you-it’s the best. Very much a local scene! Lowkey looks like just a bar when you walk in but go towards the back and you will see it!

Born and raised in Columbia!! Also went to USC for college. Just like any town, there is crime, but I’ve literally NEVER felt unsafe. Things to do: Soda City (a little cute market every Saturday downtown), river walk, Riverbanks Zoo, day trip to Charleston, walks around USC’s campus. Coffee shops: my favorite is Drip Coffee, but lots of folks love Piecewise Coffee Co., Azalea Coffee Bar, and Curiosity Coffee Bar.

I went to USC and 100% agree with all these recs! I also love Hendrick’s rooftop bar/restaurant and the Moxy rooftop bar. I worked at Halls Chophouse and highly recommend for a date night!

Downtown can be fun HOWEVER be careful it can be sketchy, just be aware of your surroundings and just stay in areas where others are around.
