I’m a GenX, we were explicitly taught and drilled incessantly. I was the second grade spelling champion. It was 43 years ago and I’m not over it. 🤣

It’s like my brain just knows all the rules. Anytime I hear a word, I “see” it spelled out in my mind

reading a lot helps with recognizing patterns. im envious of you being an auditory learner because if you spell at me, i CANNOT immediately understand and must process for a couple seconds. gifted in one and limited in the other

I think it’s just a brain thing. I can’t do anything related to numbers, even addition gives me anxiety. Also can’t remember right from left without thinking about it. But for somereason I’m good at spelling🤷🏼♀️

English is just three languages in a trench coat. it pulls from a bunch of different languages so word origin affects spelling. as far as how I know how to spell, I don't, I fear my brains a dictionary at this point and I am just lucky I have a good memory 😂

I was a weirdo kid who read the thesaurus multiple times front-to-back for fun. It highlighted and dog-eared. I think i accidentally memorized a lot!

Reading. I read so much as a kid and I have pictures in my brain of how words look on pages of books.

I am probably hyperlexic and good at most of the random spellings and strange pronunciations. But I can’t get my “i before e” right for love nor money

Starts with phonics which I think they stopped teaching and they shouldn’t have because you can sound out words without having to memorize. Being an avid reader helps tremendously with the weird spellings that you can’t just sound out with phonics.

I was a court reporter. When you have to think about how words are spelled in ordered to do your job, you basically memorize every word.
