its sad how you had to go so deep into explaining this. the closeminded people claim that the kid is setting us filipinos back but i feel like its the other way around. bullying a kid is not what our culture is about. we need to look out for each other and maintain our strong and connected community that we also push for. we shouldnt let our looks influence our ego, its dividing our community :/

Another thing is, that kid is likely from the Philippines. There is a cultural divide between filams and mainland Filipinos. Filams usually have never heard of the internalized racism prevalent back in mainland. So their guards went up as soon as the video went viral. And I could tell most of the Filipinos posting “mogged” content were not from the Philippines. Understably so to be defending us. But they also lack the understanding of chinitas, mestizo and Moreno beauty standards. The bullying was not necessary but the cultural disconnect of beauty standards just made this problem even worse than what it should have been.

It’s so weird how many people disagree!! Like I’m not Filipino but I can say my culture def has the same colorism problem unfortunately. We have all been there at some point because society has made us think other features are just “better “ than others. It so weird how many people are straight up bullying him! He might have internalized racism but he doesn't deserve hate. He's just a young boy who still lacks awareness. Everyone deserves empathy and everyone needs to learn that people have unique perspectives in life. And everyone needs to stop stepping on and bullying others to boost their confidence and ego. At the end of the day we're all people. Might as well love who you are and appreciate life.
