A Bridge Through Time — Livingston Manor Covered Bridge, NY Tucked away in the beautiful Catskill Mountains in the Town of Rockland, Sullivan County, New York, stands a wooden treasure that has witnessed more than 165 years of history. The Livingston Manor Covered Bridge was built in 1860 by John Davidson, a skilled local bridge builder. Originally known as Mott Flats Bridge and later as Van Tran Bridge, this historic structure stretches 103 feet across the beautiful Willowemoc Creek. Imagine the stories this old bridge could tell! In its earliest days, horse-drawn wagons and carriages traveled across its wooden floorboards. Generations of families passed through, never imagining that this little bridge would still be standing more than a century and a half later. The bridge was built using a traditional Town lattice truss design, with its wooden roof helping protect the structure from the elements. After decades of wear, the bridge underwent an extensive restoration beginning in 1984 and reopened in 1985, preserving its historic beauty for future generations. Today, it is the oldest of four surviving historic covered bridges of its type in Sullivan County. As we stood admiring the weathered wood and beautiful craftsmanship, we couldn’t help but think of all the people who traveled through this bridge long before us. Some bridges simply take you across a creek. Others take you back in time. And that’s exactly why we love traveling the backroads. You never know when you’ll discover another beautiful piece of history just waiting to be appreciated. The Backroad Soul Searchers #coveredbridge #History
