Scrap 0.5% stamp duty is a good idea mate. Would encourage people to buy more.

But would that not just artificially inflate the value of those stocks? Unless there’s some feedback loop that increases the long term profitability of said listed companies?

10k limit for cash isa is perfectly reasonable tbh

Aaron Butcher :
Why not add a additional £5k for only UK stock so we get some more investment but it doesn’t mean it’s mandated.

Absolutely not. There is a sector of the investment market do not want risk just a regular return

Cap to 10k in cash seems fine, limit to UK stocks is horrible, getting rid of stamp duty would be amazing.

Completely the wrong approach they need to educate people and make people feel more comfortable investing not force them into it as the only place to put their money

I honestly don't understand why people aren't keen to just use a stocks and shares ISA rather than cash.

would make consumers more dependent on USA corporations, not everyone wants to line pockets of private equity CEOs and traders.

The stamp duty means many UK investors use cheaper foreign markets for short /medium term trades.

Politicians, civil servants & think tanks just don’t get it. People’s behaviour isn’t a spreadsheet exercise. Policy after policy, decision after decision coming from sheeplike scholars in an ivory tower not entrepreneurs.

I have posted why do you pay stamp duty on UK stocks and not USA stocks . The ftse is the worst index to invest both the DAX and CAC40 out performed it

That will never happen re uk stocks. If that actually happened everyone would become hilariously rich as the ftse would go up 25% per year 😂

invest in a secondary stock market where you are buying shares off an investment bank and not the initial issuers, all those lovely dealing fees and custody charges being paid to a financial institution and all that stamp duty payable to the gubbermint, can see why the finance markets don't want your money in a cash ISA and want it in a stock ISA
