option 1 is fun & dual purpose. but will you really put everything away & fold back your desk every day? or will it poke out & hinder foot traffic daily until you have people over? option 2 has more storage & space, plus you just need to tuck in the chair & close the door. keeping your piles/stacks/samples in place & easily to get back into

I think option two is lovely, especially if you don’t want a workspaceMaybe you can add in a few more shelves or take a couple out and still use it as a coat closet or extra storage.

Option 1 cause 2 would look weird without two to make it look symmetrical unless you do 2 but all the way around the fireplace make it look built in
