@tanner.the.electrician: Thank you to all of the installers on Facebook that inspired me to create this new bit. Here’s episode 1. #fypシ #electrical #electrician #electric #construction #LearnOnTikTok #nec
fine, follow the code. my question is why did they create this code?

Master in Bama :
At least they said white tape, and not phase tape.
It was beat into my skull to not call it phase tape for 2 reasons. #1 it doesn't matter what color tape you identify a wire with, it's still the same phase.
#2 The only people who actually use phase tape work in a motor winding shop.

I mean yeah but tell that to my supply house that only carries #6 thhn in black and green lmao. MA here, never been failed by taping it white but i know it's not technically "allowed" 🤷🏻♂️

In my experience the hardest headed electricians are the old heads with decades of experience. They've learned the motions and the lingo but never really educated themselves on the HOW or WHY.

What if I want to reidentify Number twelve gauge, neutral and a cable assembly

Nobody has showed up to turn my power off or arrest me for any of my white taped black wire yet. 🤷♂️

No one ever seems to question these things, "iT'S In tHe cOdE BoOk..." Sure, but why are you only allowed to re-identify conductors of a certain size? What's the actual danger (fire, electrocution) of re-identifying smaller conductors?

JVRowan :
to be fair. it used to be legal until the wire manufacturer lobbyists got the code changed so companies have to buy colored white and green wire

Most inspectors don’t know what they’re looking at half the time so these guys get away with it and think it’s okay.

Thank you for taking the time to correctly presenting this code. I don't know why everyone wouldn't use colored wire to begin with. It just makes sense!

Code changed from the 96’to 99 cycle for that. Personally I have always disagreed with the change, but I don’t have to like the game to play it.
