@rawdetroit: Just 15 minutes east of downtown, the Canal District in Jefferson Chalmers is what some call Detroit’s Little Venice. A network of canals built over 100 years ago connects homes to the river, creating a quiet spot for kayaking, boating, or walks along the water. More than 160 acres of waterfront parks surround the neighborhood, along with 1920s brick storefronts, Art Deco churches, and vintage ballrooms that hint at the area’s past. With new seawall repairs and fresh investment, this Eastside gem is starting to get the attention it deserves. 📍 Canal District, Jefferson Chalmers #detroit #traveltiktok #fyp

I lived on the canal and owned two houses there. The flooding, threats from the city to block off the canal, and crime made it so we had to move. It has so much potential.

It's right up the street from us. I love driving through the area. Canoe tours are fun to watch. Especially during hightide. It's entertaining watching the daredevil ones attempting to clear the bridges. 😁

Love the canals! Take a kayak to Coriander Kitchen or pontoon to Belle Isle beach. So grateful to have access to this part of the city!

I’m a west sider and not familiar with this neighborhood. Next time I’m driving on Jefferson, I’ll turn onto Chalmers towards the river and see if I can find the Canal District. I’ll be respectful to the locals. 😁
