Lived there for years. Happens every summer. Fine seaweed broken up and pounded by waves from easterly wind. It gets forced into the furthest point inland in the bay. Washes up and begins to break down in the sun. It’s organic material and so when in breaks down if starts to smell.

the lovely Blackrock as its called is not to lovely now. it has always been the dirty of beach always . annagassan or port is a million times cleaner and nicer and lot more friendly also. the smell of all of Blackrock is disgusting with the beach

I believe Sandymount beech is the worse. It regularly saying don't swim due to salmonella in the water. We have the sewage plant there that DOES pump into the sea, and the incinerate doing god know what, as there are no regular checks done.
