at work one day a Falcon dive bombed a pigeon somewhere over my head, the sound it made when it hit was astonishing. the pigeon dropped about 3 M from me. the Falcon waited for me to move before retrieving its meal. Biology!

To combine those fun facts: The falcon has a tiny potrusion Inside their nostril, that disrupts the airflow, so their lungs are not torn to shreds at that speed. 😅

My favorite fact is that evolution is a process of ‘good enough’ and earth is so crazy that ‘good enough’ sometimes requires things like needing to pull 25G’s, or filter feed boiling water, or have enough neuroplasticity to regularly control a multi ton vehicle going at 60mph

I’ve been trying to explain this and the fact that every breath is an inhale and an exhale because they’re taking in new air and pushing the old air out to air sacs and it is this simultaneous inhale exhale that allow them enough oxygen to sustain flight.
