@modernlawaz: A lawyer accidentally calls a judge “Honey” and he proceeds to feel properly embarrassed for his slip up. Do you feel bad for him? #lawyers #lawtok #attorney #judge #honey
I dunno, I heard more of a "husband arguing with his wife" tone rather than a condescending one. Still 😂 as a new GAL/CASA volunteer, it's funny to see all the little ways attorney's slip up in court. Very humanizing

What’s confusing to me is everyone that was mad at the judge and I’m like 🤨 she kinda just existed there and said move on with what you were saying

I just saw an honest slip. His tone wasn’t condescending & he was clearly embarrassed. I feel bad for him. But I’m also not offended by ‘Honey’

I would like to disagree. To me it seemed more of a husband talking to wife “honey” rather than a general “honey” to a female. That’s just my take though.

I call my wife hunny all the time. It’s not a bad word bad time and place but he apologized immediately so yeah I feel bad for him.

this was a total response to him arguing with his wife or with his daughters etc. he was immediately remorseful and he didn't mean to say that. it's almost like when kids call their teachers "mom" there's many situations of this happening and being in a courtroom almost daily female judges get called terrible names and honey isn't gonna keep her up at night. I didn't get a single condescending vibe from that entire situation.

or he has an argumentative wife and his response was reflexive to try and deesculate the situation.

I think it matters where this happened. Maybe in the south that's OK? I also live in AZ and I find the use of "honey" condescending in any context outside of a marital relationship. I travel for work and absolutely hate it in the south where waitresses and others call me "honey" or "sweetie." To my ear it just sounds smarmy. In those instances I'm a guest in their culture, so I just brush it off. Location, location, location. In a courtroom? Ewwww

I saw a man have a single slip of the tongue. No pattern. I don’t know if he calls all women honey or his wife or his daughter. I’ve called my son by the dog’s name once. It was not something I do normally. The only difference is this guy’s slip of the tongue was on film and in front of a judge.

If he calls women other than his significant other honey then I don’t feel bad for him. But he may have just been thinking of his wife. So I withhold judgement until and unless further evidence becomes available.

THANK YOU. People keep trying to play it off as if he was speaking to his wife, Uhm no, he was speaking to her the way he looks at women. It was degrading and dehumanizing and the fact he didn’t just apologize and move on showed that.

Seemed to me that he said “honey” as though he was arguing with his wife…I didn’t interpret his use of honey as condescending. Need more info lol. Is he married and his wife wears the pants in the family?

I'm in the boat with those saying the "honey" was likely what he calls a loved one. If that is the case then the pattern would be that he uses terms of endearment even when arguing

Almost every student has called their teacher Dad or Mom at one time or another but honey is demeaning.

I feel bad for him because of the Freudian slip. He might call his significant other honey. I don't think it's that deep

I totally don’t believe it was condescending at all. As a woman I didn’t hear anything but a genuine mistake he felt terrible for it.

I don’t know, I feel like that’s the wrong take. I feel like his reaction and response shows that he was not only mortified but remorseful. I got the more theres stuff going on at home vibe or maybe trauma trigger. Totally get where you’re coming from though, I just don’t think, honey, has to be a derogatory term. If it’s not a loved one, it can have a demeaning effect in many cases though, so should probably be avoided unless you know them well.
