A lab grown human probably won't get to develop normally (social sense). And that's unfortunate. They might answer some questions about the existence of a "soul". And either way that has the potential to fundamentally change society

it makes sense to alter genome to correct sequences that cause life threatening diseases but then it will weaken the human gene pool as more future babies will carry the genetic diseases from 'fixed' parents.

...why does pursuits in science just make me feel empty and depressed. I used to stand in awe at what we were doing. Now i constantly am questioning each new "advancement/marvel" and asking myself WHY.... We could be pushing more focus into keeping this planet alive but we're morphing ourselves like a universal virus. We are truly a sick species.

At this point designer babies are inevitable. Only way to have any control over it is to allow it to an extent so at least you can limit some hereditary diseases and such. If you outright ban it the underground industry is going to flourish with no limits whatsoever

if money were no object I'd really just want to make sure my hypothetical child was safe from my family's predisposition to scoliosis and needing glasses (and also maybe having them produce their own vitamin c like nearly every other mammal does)
