@💫: Ending, dads words in quotations: “ya’know kid, you didn’t have to do this bet, I would have given you money any time you asked. Thats what parents are supposed to do.” But you made the bet with me..? “I wanted to teach you about being responsible with money and not depending on handouts. But seeing you this month, you collected cans, you sold your Pokémon cards, you walked to school in the rain because you were too proud to ask for help.” That’s when it hit me, my dad hadn’t made this bet to reward me, he made it because he thought I was some spoiled kid who asked for money too much. He wanted to me learn a lesson about not depending on him too much. But I wasn’t spoiled, I barely ever asked him for anything because I knew money was tight since mom was laid off. I realized my dad thought I was some greedy kid when really I was just a 13 year old who occasionally just wanted to hang out with friends and have lunch. Every time I would ask for 5 dollars here or there, he was keeping track like I was bleeding him dry. I kept the 50 dollars but it felt dirty in my pocket. From that day on, I never asked my dad for money again. I got a job when I was old enough and paid for everything I needed. Years later in college, my dad tried to give me money for textbooks and I refused. He asked why I was being so stubborn and I reminded him of the bet. He paused and said “That was the worst parenting decision I’ve ever made “ but it was too late, I had thought that asking for help made me a burden. (Follow me, I did u a favor)
