iirc they get agitated by stress hormones so if you're afraid of them it makes them more likely to come at you. gotta be nice to them though as they are just as important as bees for pollination

anyone who said that usually dealt with more passive wasps regularly. there is a greater chance that any particular wasp will assume hostility and launch a pre-emptive strike to protect the nest if you get too close. that's just how nature works

Wasps will sting anyone anywhere for no reason. Bees on the other hand are very sweet and only sting if you get near the nest. If they’re all over a bush with flowers that doesn’t have the nest you can walk right in. Source: am landscaper

maybe i am simply built different but every time I've been stung by a wasp its been pretty easy to identify what thing it was that threatened them. So i just stopped doing those things around wasps, and consequently have not been stung in like 8 years

im high school i was running cross country practice and I was breathing through my mouth and a bee flew in. I saw it just in time to close my mouth. it got stuck in between my lips in front of my teeth. he bit tf out of my lip but didnt sting me. mad respect for his self control
