@5.minute.neurosci: A CT (computed tomography) scanner uses X-rays to create detailed cross-sectional images of the body. During a scan, the patient lies on a motorized table that moves slowly through a circular opening in the scanner. Inside the ring, an X-ray tube rotates around the body, emitting a series of narrow beams from different angles. As the beams pass through the body, detectors on the opposite side capture the X-rays that emerge, measuring how much radiation is absorbed by various tissues like bone, muscle, or organs. The data collected by the detectors are sent to a computer, which uses mathematical algorithms to reconstruct the information into a series of thin image “slices.” These slices can then be stacked to produce a 3D representation of internal structures. CT scans are particularly useful for quickly identifying injuries, tumors, infections, or abnormalities in soft tissue and bone, and are often used in emergency settings because of their speed and accuracy. #neuroscience #medicine #neuro #psych #psychology #STEM #STEMeducation
