Growing up, I’ve always struggled with where I fit in because of the colour of my skin. I’m Coloured, but to some people in the Coloured community, I’m “too light” or “not dark enough” to be considered Coloured. At the same time, I’m still “too dark” to be seen as White. I’ve been called “Whitey” by Coloured people, while White people have treated me differently because they see me as Coloured. It sometimes feels like you’re stuck in the middle — not fully accepted by either side. Being light-skinned doesn’t make me any less Coloured. My identity shouldn’t be determined by how dark or light my skin is. And I know I can’t be the only light-skinned Coloured person who has experienced this. No one should be made to feel like they have to prove what they are because of the colour of their skin. 🫶🏽 #fyp #coloured #capetown #southafrica #studentlife
