@reasonandreligion: The Christian tradition is not the only religion that is held together by logical fallacies, but here are a few examples. #christainity #atheist #atheism #god #theology #philosophy

Appeal to authority is a fallacy because authority has the possibility of being wrong. But if you appeal to an authority that is infallible, there’s no fallacy being said. But as a Catholic I can agree some of these statements, at least the way you formulate them, are fallacies indeed.

Firstly, none of these arguments are integral to Christianity. One could reject all of them and still be a Christian. Different people and different denominations focus on different aspects of faith. For example: Catholics tend to focus on natural theology while protestants tend to focus on Christology.

The fifth argument is the only argument actually found in Christian argument, the rest are low-tier conversion starters. That being that God alone is uncaused. This can be substantiated in Leibniz’s argument for contingency, and Aristotle’s/Aquinas’ argument from motion. They’re both essentially the same argument but gift wrapped in a different font but they still stand.

You’re correct on all of these except for special pleading. It’s only a special pleading if there’s no justification for the reason. God can be the first cause because he exists outside the physical universe and doesn’t depend on it. You may not like this answer, but it is a valid argument.

The trilemma is usually predicated on other options being intangible, thus the trilemma is not false.

I just read in a sociology book that religion was useful in the evolution of humans bc it offered emotion rewards and created larger and more reliable social networks for individuals. One can have parasocial relationships with imaginary characters such as gods, and they can offer rewarding attachments

You’re wrong on the part that everything must have a cause except for God. At some point if you were to rewind everything you will have to come to realization that there has to be something that is uncreated that caused everything. something must have created everything, but that’s something cannot be subject, contained or even affected by its creation unless it wants to, and it has to have trait such as morals, intelligence and be personal in order to make everything that has those traits, and that’s what we call God.

If I am wrong, please educate me. I love learning about theology and religions. I can go more in depth with it, but those are things that I’ve pulled from science and scholars, but if I’m wrong, let me know.

I went to several tracking schools. It takes a very long time to recognize signs and it's not always clear you're on trail, but it's definitely possible since it's been done successfully for thousands of years. I can't argue with you until you are a good tracker. You have to 1) accept it's possible because others have done it and 2) practice for decades.

Contra Haereses :
Everything must have a cause except for God is not "creating" a rule and then exempting a favourite explanation. The fact that everything has a cause is self evident, it's not a made up "rule". And in order to avoid the absurdity of infinite regress there must be an uncaused cause. This uncaused cause is what we call God.

Well I agree with you until the one with if a Christian does evil argument. Being a Christian means to follow Jesus, following Jesus means to not harm anyone. If we do harm anyone it is not Jesus inspired, it is our own greed or anger. It’s like pointing out a communist who agrees with capitalism, it doesn’t make sense, the communist can’t just say “hey don’t define my communism!” But then agree and fight for capitalism. It’s the same scenario, you’re making a mistake by saying we redefines Christian by saying a person harming another person isn’t Christian or at least isn’t God inspired.
