@jeromejjwilson: Day 2 of reading The Quran for the first time. Please let me know your thoughts in the comments! PSA: When I was talking about marriage I meant religious beliefs, not just beliefs in general. #religion #islam #quran #allah #god #education

Fear meaning: think of someone you love and highly respect; you will have a tendency to not do something to disrespect them … it’s a fear of disrespecting God. Muslims are not scared of God, it’s a fear of not wanting to “disappoint” Him while we strive in our worship.

thar part about ch.33 isnt contradictory. "if Allah had so willed" means Allah has the power to stop the disbelief but He gave us free will.

About the Torah, we believe in the teachings of moses and Jesus, but we don't believe that these teachings are preserved, humans rewrote these teachings, added parts to it and removed parts from it, so it's no longer the word of god, it has mixed stories, true stories and false stories

I feel so bad for u reading it in English it made so much sense when I listened and read it in Arabic but when I tired the English version I would get confused fast and it didn’t sound as impactful the Arabic version makes it reach the heart and connects with your heart

Hey man love the series so far. I am born Muslim but have never read the Quran. Decided to pick it up and read with you. I just finished chapter 2 (the chapter you are currently on). One comment about your concerns about fear. Just a reminder, the Arabic language is extremely rich. It's words have a lot more meaning than their English translations. The word for fear that is being used here isn't the fear that you would feel from an oppressor or tyrant. The word used in the Quran is not about instilling fear but rather to bring awareness of God's greatness. A reminder that with every action we take, every intention we have - God is aware of them and witnesses all. Also, in those verses you will also see phrases referring to God's mercy and forgiveness.

I disagree with those saying that Christians and Jews today won't go to heaven. We do not have such knowledge. If Allah so wills that they do, they will. A Christian, a Jew, or even an atheist who does good, may have a chance of going to heaven just as any bad muslim has a chance of going to hell. Allah is the judge of that, not us people. It is not our place to say who will and who won't. While the general rule says, they won't, there are stories of exceptions. I can provide more context if you're interested. Allah will look for the one reason to forgive, rather than the million ones to punish.

Nobody can say Jews and Christian’s today won’t go to heaven. Everyone is judged on their abilities and information they have and their own condition

The quran which is more than 1400 years old explains science that was discovered recently like embryology, iron origin, the meeting of the sea, brain and frontal lobe. This is what makes me 100% believe in it. You will see as you read.

Muslims need to have love and fear of their creator. just as you fear misbehaving because your mum will punish you but ultimately she wants what's best for you and she loves you

It's not fear for fear’s sake. It’s fear with purpose. Think of it like this in society, we don’t just ‘suggest’ people not to murder, steal, or cheat. We have laws with consequences. Why? Because people don’t always listen to what’s right unless there’s real accountability. The Qur’an is doing the same but on a divine scale. It’s not about making you afraid just to control you, it’s about making you aware that your actions matter

Just a note: the Quran is not arranged in the order it was revealed. It came down over 23 years in response to real events in Mecca and Medina. Understanding that historical context helps make sense of what you’re reading.

If you don’t mind i would like to add a big point to keep in mind, “allah created us and he is sustaining us so he know our best interest and he put objective morals and principles” so our opinions are irrelevant and has no worth since the creator all-knowing and all-wise. While you read laws and you find conflict i highly suggest you do a quick research on the law itself is it beneficial or not, such as adultery laws and interests laws and marriage, I sense sincerity in you and you hope you find the objective truth.

I want to answer a few of your questions so far. Firstly, fearing Allah doesn't mean to be scared of him. Allah loves us more than a human could understand. He means fearing displeasing him. He doesn't want to punish us but instead reward us. That is why we can't say if someone is 100% going to heaven or hell. This also means we don't know if some Christians, Jews, or any person from a different religion is for sure going to heaven or hell. They could be admitted into heaven through his mercy. Fearing Allah again just means fearing displeasing him because he doesn't want to punish. He loves to reward. Another comment gets more into this.

The topic of marrying a believer over a non believer is due to the protection of women. In Islam, women are highly protected and sacred in a sense and all the women under the abrahamic religions are protected with marital rights both during the marriage and even after if there is a divorce or if she is widowed (things like dowry, specific rights only given to wives and not husbands, honor and protection of wife is only applicable if she either Jewish, Christian or Muslim and etc.). If a man marries someone outside of those faiths, then in the case of settling matters in an Islamic court in the event of a divorce for example, she will have limited, almost no rights, to get back her dowry, spousal support, custody of land or kids or what have you. So the reason why it’s required of men to marry a woman who is a believer is because she, as a believer, will be owed the full rights of being a wife in Islamic law. That’s why it’s often recommended that if a man wants to marry a woman outside of the abrahamic faith, she can only do so after she’s been converted over.

Marriage between a Muslim man and a Muslim woman is the ideal choice—not only because it unites two people in love and compassion, but also because it fulfills a set of essential values that strengthen religious and family stability. Through such a marriage, both partners find spiritual peace and harmony that help them stay committed to obeying Allah. It also plays a key role in preserving Islamic identity in the face of modern-day challenges. This type of marriage helps build a strong and united Islamic household, which serves as the foundation of a healthy society. It also makes it easier for parents to raise their children according to Islamic values from an early age. Most importantly, this marriage pleases Allah Almighty and is one of the Sunnahs encouraged in Islam due to the great benefits it brings in both this life and the Hereafter
