Mine currently starts with definition of the course, and then how i feel the course applies to me. For example, engineering is the use of complex mathematical and scientific methods to solve complex problems. For me, it allows me to express myslef blah blah blah etc. is this any good? How could i improve if not?

I would say from a young age can be good if done well, especially for degrees which may need demonstration of development from a young age (eg arts subjects). That being said it can work for any degree if done well
