@forrestfromtexas: Considered extinct in Texas is the elusive Jaguarundi. They weigh up to 20 lbs and were most commonly found in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. Texas Parks and Wildlife has the last confirmed sighting at 1986. #texas #wildlife #wildcat #jaguarundi #extinctanimals
I’ve seen, a mountain lion, an ocelot and even a ringtail cat here in Texas. But never a jaguarundi.

when i was a kid, i’m 99% sure i saw a jaguarundi in the texas hill country near the kerrville area. i was on a weekend trip with my childhood friend and her family at their cabin, we were out fishing when we spotted it across the river, moving along the rocky hillside. it felt like we’d seen bigfoot or something because the animal looked so peculiar. her uncle, who was an avid hunter and super familiar with the area’s wildlife, had no idea what it was either. at first i thought it might be an otter, but it was way too big. its movement was smooth and precise, and its body, almost weasel like but clearly feline. anyway, her uncle tried to shoot it, which lowkey traumatized me. i threw a whole fit and was mad about it the rest of the trip. lol i’m old so this happened back in 1997 maybe.

Years ago my dad swore he saw a mountain lion in North Texas where we live - we all laughed at him. Then a couple years later one was caught on camera in Frisco. Hated having to admit he was right!

I used to work with the youth conservation corps in the Santa Ana national wildlife refuge in South Texas back around 1990. It was a summer program and I was out in the refuge with one of the herpetologist and we both agree that we spotted one. Didn’t have a camera so it can’t be confirmed, but we’re pretty sure.

My whole family saw one crossing the road on the 4th of July 6 years ago. Not just one person, all 6 of us saw it. I researched ALL the possible cats and am quite certain this is the only one it could’ve been. We live near B/CS an hour and a half from Bastrop. When I lived in Bastrop I saw a tan single colored fluffy wild cat with a bushy long tail and bright green eyes and pointy ears with fluff. The closest thing I can find that looks like it is a Canadian lynx but that wasn’t it exactly. I stopped my truck, got out to look closer, and when it ran into the woods I chased after it for a few minutes til I lost sight of it. Honestly NO idea what it could’ve been. It doesn’t match any wild cat description, was about the size of a bobcat or bigger, and it’s been a mystery to me since. This was in 2017/2018 in the country near Cedar Creek outside of Bastrop. Anybody have ideas what it could’ve been? I researched for years and still can’t figure it out
