A lot of kids lost hope. Many of them don’t see the point of learning. if they are going to get a low paying job anyway and work until they die like their parents. It’s sad but true.

The email you talk about being sent to the student, parent, etc. is that the same email? Or do you separately email the student with different content?

could just be me but any of my students ever who were super disengaged and super disrespectful always had something going on, sometimes at school and sometimes at home. Just because you don’t specifically know why a child isn’t engaged doesn’t mean they don’t have smth external effecting them. Take this with a grain of salt i’m very young and while i work in education i have never worked at a school.

Yeah, but your admin needs to LET you give them a 0. My kids wouldnt hand in their work and our school gave a policy that we could only give as low as a 50 so that their GPA wouldn’t tank…yeah, the consequence of their actions! I left teaching a few years ago, Godspeed to all educators

I was one of these students, don’t get me wrong I had a lot going on at home but regardless, my teachers where incredibly helpful and I’m forever grateful for it. I did get a lot of consequences from it on the system and phones calls home and school counsellor, and I still didn’t do anything, my math teacher often let me sleep at the back of the class after doing 3 questions instead of 30

I love this idea! As a school psychologist, this would support early intervention for both the student and the teacher—addressing the issue before the habit becomes too ingrained and more difficult to reverse.

I check on them to make sure they are okay, remind them that they have work to do, and check on them later in the class. Document and, when it becomes a habit, try to contact parents, but I often don’t get replies.
