Hi there! So l also have this condition. Basically it is Diverticulosis -small pockets that form in your intestines where small bits of food can collect (nuts and seeds are particularly bad as they are very hard and small) The food gets ‘stuck’ in the pockets and starts to rot (gross, l know) Then inflammation occurs and bam, you have diverticulitis. So it is an effect of living with diverticulosis. When l feel an attack coming, l start eating soft foods-apple sauce, yogurt, clear broth, pudding, etc. The antibiotics get rid of the infection which causes the pain. l have only had 2 attacks in quite a few years, so having it may not mean you are destined for a rough life. Always chew your food well!

I have diverticulitis. I always have Cipro and Flagyl on hand. The minute I get a twinge I start the meds. I go to Er, get lab creatine so I can have CT. I do this to make sure I haven't perforated or slow leak. I go on a full fluid diet for few days, then full fluid, then BRAT diet.Take pain meds and go to bed to rest. I am exhausted for about a week..it's an all body inflammation reaction. you need rest. I take probiotics bid and don't stop during a flare because antibiotics will wipe out bad and good flora.

I went through the same thing same exact symptoms. Ended up septic and on vent for 22 days. Ended up with colostomy bag for 3 years. My colon ruptured. I have since been reversed and live a very normal life. Please get the colonoscopy asap!

My Mom has this. She can’t really eat nuts, seeds (even sesame seeds on burger buns at fast food places), popcorn, etc. or else they get stuck in there and cause infection in the pockets and she gets a lot of pain and feels terrible. She has more trouble when she isn’t active (like days of travelling/driving) and doesn’t deink enough. Otherwise it stays under control very well! Hope you feel better soon!!

I'm sorry to say this. That's how my journey started. Your doctor should check you for Cancer. As they first thought diverticulitis. So happy I got to see a gynecologist. Yes, get a CAT scan.

Liquid diet until the pain subsides. Then gradually reintroduce food - soft foods first … then work your way up to solid. Beef and pork are also very hard to digest so limit those foods as well. Good luck. Complete life change. Keep a food diary as well - will help to determine your triggers

I have had diverticulitis for 20 years, had a foot of my colon removed, have been in and out of hospital a ton of times, but a lot less since my surgery. You will get used to how to handle it.

Go back to ER. You can have a bowel perforation from this. That can be fatal. I am a sufferer of diverticulitis and have actually had a significant portion of my sigmoid colon removed - go to the ER

I as well have been diagnosed with diverticular disease. I have had to change my diet. Once you feel those cramps starting stop eating solids and only have clear liquids...broths, water for anywhere from 3 to 5 days. Some flair ups can cause fever as well. I was told that I need to keep the flow going and lots of fibre and water

What took the docs so long? I knew when you said lower left abdomen! Stay on this-it can develop into an absess. But! This has always resolved for me with meds and diet changes.

I would engage a nutritionist/dietician, so you know what you can eat and how to help manage flare-ups.

I have just been diagnosed with this 6 mths ago. My dad and two sisters have it too. You can’t eats nuts, any fruit with seeds like blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, no popcorn, cucumber seeds, and I’m sure more. The doctor spoke to me after my colonoscopy and I was so doped up I don’t remember anything and am still waiting for his office to book an appointment so I can ask questions. It’s been waiting for 6 months now. My sisters and dad said the pain from an attack is excruciating.

Colonoscopy will have to wait till the episode has cooled off. When u feel an episode coming on, get on clear liquids and bowel rest . I generally give mine a couple of days to resolve on its own before I contact the doctor.
