Aussie here. Shattered my wrist last year. No insurance. Ambulance. Surgery. 9 titanium screws, 2 titanium plates. X-ray, MRI, Ultrasound. 3 nights in hospital. Total cost: $5.50 (for a large latte on the way out).

Hit a barbed wire fence riding my mountain bike at speed, got 25 stitches. Was billed 30k and had it reduced to 5K... like all I did was ask. I have good insurance too. Medical bills are just a dice roll in the US. Just random number generators.
