If I do not give a tenth of my income, will God stop loving me or stop blessing me? Many Christians have wondered: “If I don’t give ten percent of my income, will God become angry with me?” “Will I lose God’s blessings?” “Will I even be under a curse?” Before we answer, let’s first look at what the Bible really says. First, God cares not only about the offering, but also about the heart behind it. The Lord Jesus once praised a poor widow. What she gave was only two small coins. In the eyes of others, it seemed like almost nothing. But Jesus said that she had given more than those who gave large amounts. Because God does not look at the amount, He looks at whether a person is willing to give their heart to Him. Second, the New Testament emphasizes giving willingly. 2 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV) says: “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” True giving that pleases God is not motivated by fear, and it is not forced by pressure. It comes from loving God and responding to His grace. Third, do not turn giving into a condition for trading blessings with God. Giving is a way to worship God, not a transaction. God does not start loving you because you give. And if you temporarily do not have the ability to give, it does not mean God has abandoned you. What God desires more is for us to give our lives to Him, learn to obey Him, and live according to His Word. Giving is important, but what God truly wants first is our heart. If you are thinking about giving today, ask yourself one question: Is my giving coming from love for God, or from fear? When we truly know God, giving is no longer a burden, but a willing response of love and gratitude.
