Mbappé answered, saying she's racist and unworthy of her role, and the French Football Federation is weighing legal action. Now the senator has published a long letter saying she regrets posting in anger, but she also demands Mbappé apologise and is threatening legal action of her own. Here’s the full letter the Senator wrote to Mbappé: OPEN LETTER TO MBAPPÉ. The problem is between you and me. I have never said anything against France — on the contrary, I am with you. I studied at a French school from the age of 2 until I was 17, and I completed my schooling there. I am who I am thanks to the Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepción, and I am where I am thanks to the education it gave me. We sang La Marseillaise and we honoured its flag alongside our own. I speak French and I love visiting France. I spent last Christmas with my family in Courchevel, and we welcomed the new year in Saint-Tropez. This has nothing to do with France — the problem is with you. Your arrogance and your contempt have been infuriating me since before the match, when you said: "if we have to put our hands in the shit, then let's put them in." We are not stupid — we understand perfectly well that the "shit" was the Paraguayan team, and the Paraguayan team is all of us. Then you said they were going to take the makeup off. We understand that too: that you lot are so elegant with your makeup, while we, poor and rough as we are, don't even know what it is. All of Paraguay stayed silent, myself included. We took it. During the match, your arrogant behaviour was plain to see — your contempt for every player, as if they disgusted you — and, without covering your mouth, you said "la concha de tu madre" [a crude Spanish insult], an extremely aggressive phrase in Latin America, and you know it. And finally, you showed contempt for our goalkeeper's health. That is simply not done. Respect between rivals after a match is almost sacred — in war as in peace, in defeat as in victory — yet you didn't shake his hand, and you shouted your victory in his face. That is simply not done. You showed your contempt, your arrogance and your poor upbringing in a single second. It hurt me, and it hurt my entire country, deeply. France should hold it against you, because France is a country of chivalry, with centuries of history and "savoir-faire". France should reproach you for your behaviour. My posts were written with boiling blood — this mestizo blood, that beautiful blend of indigenous and Spanish blood running through my veins. That is what produced today's posts, when you mocked those immense Paraguayan players who fought you as equals until the end of the match — and I wrote. But straight away I regretted having mistreated you with the same insults that I myself receive — because I too am looked down on for being mestiza and Latina; "dirty", they call us — I regretted it and deleted the post. I realised I was repeating the very patterns I despise, and I deleted it. I understand that it upset you, because it is humiliating.
