I'm a weird American who doesn't mind if you tell me your life story when I ask "How are you?" Maybe you don't have a lot of support. You can tell me all about it if you want. It's an INFJ thing, I guess.

but it's not polite to just perform being polite? you wouldn't ask "how are you but don't really tell me bc idc" bc you know it's not polite but that's what you mean but don't wanna say. I'm too neurodivergent to understand why being fake would be polite in any situation

I will genuinely never understand this. How is it considered being polite to not care how you are shouldn’t be a phrase should be to look into someone’s soul. Either you care to help in a bad moment or you are actually being the opposite of polite.

We do want a real answer, maybe not a detailed in depth convo, but if you said “bad” I would say I’m so sorry and maybe offer something like a drink or coffee. It is polite but doesn’t mean we don’t care 🙄😩
