@americantravelarchives: I can’t believe people live in Tampa and still haven’t checked this place out. Follow @americantravelarchives for more hidden gems and bucket list adventures across the U.S. The building alone is worth the stop — domes, arches, and that old-school architecture that looks straight out of Europe or Morocco. But the history inside? Even cooler. Henry B. Plant Museum used to be one of the most luxurious hotels in the country. Built in the 1890s to bring wealthy Northerners to Florida — and now it’s basically a walk through Gilded Age history. Here’s why it’s actually interesting: 🏛️ Super unique architecture — you’ll want photos everywhere 🪞 Original furnishings, old Florida tourism history, cool exhibits 🎄 Victorian Christmas decorations if you visit during the holidays — it’s legit 🎟️ Only $10 to get in, easy to explore in an hour or two 📍 Downtown Tampa, right by the University of Tampa campus ✨ Pro Tip: Walk the Riverwalk after — the museum’s in the perfect spot to make a whole afternoon of it. Tag someone who loves cool old buildings — or tell me your favorite underrated museum!

Henry Plant's Tampa Bay Hotel, once a resort for wealthy Florida tourists, it's grounds hosted an encampment of American troops that invaded Cuba in 1898. In 1933, the City of Tampa and the Tampa Bay Junior College (now the University of Tampa) acquired the property.

I am a docent at the H B Plant Museum in what was Henry Plant’s Tampa Bay Hotel. I love giving tours and sharing my knowledge of what the hotel brought to the City of Tampa, the United States, and the world.
