I've lived in the US for 11 years now, after being born and raised in The Netherlands for 24 years. My accent is local. If I speak Dutch, it's with an American accent at first. If I speak a lot of Dutch and switch to English, I'll sound foreign for a bit. I see how she can struggle with it.

It’s actually not a big deal at all. It’s not difficult to turn it on and turn it off. I speak English and Spanish both very clearly. So it’s not tough to do when you speak two different languages she just chooses not to. She feels more in her zone with her family’s native language, which is fine. But to say that it’s not easy is false because it is when you speak both languages clearly.
