Hey there! Tar heats up, cracks and splits over time. Tar shouldn’t be used as leak prevention. It’s more for bonding something together. Personally I use smalls strips of ice and water shield to put over shiners!

1 that's a nail in the key way . NOT a shiner .literally 2 shingles rip it an replace . least use starter or head lap of shingle put there . tar only last 4-5 yrs . on a 30yr. roof . no not ok !!!

I wouldn't the nailing patterns wrong that's why there was going to be an exposed nail but it's all right you're getting it but a shiner is the nail that is exposed to the weather and it shines when looking at the roof bet you're all good

Throw a piece of starter strip under the shingle will never leak water will just run on top of that starter if it was to go between the seems
