@ramonpang: is DJing cooked, or just different? I've been thinking about this First Floor article the longer I've been in this DJ game. #dj #boilerroom #djadvice #edm #musicindustry
dj’ing wasn’t really that nerdy lmao. u can’t call early hip hop djs nerds or even the ones in london nerds

Sorry the 90ies comparison is nonsense. 90ies had records stores that filtered. ofcourse there was a lot bad stuff but not even in comparison to the overload of today. And thanks to yt and Discogs diggers lots of 90ies and even 2000 stuff gets expensive now. Cause not may sold and people discover it. The whole dj digger scene is still active and relevant.

Europe can sustain both commercial and underground. The USA is an influencer wasteland.

I used to ride my bike 6 miles each way to spend the $20 I earned mowing lawns to play DDR just so I could listen to electronic music. EDM IS SO ACCESSIBLE THESE DAYS AND THAT NAKES ME HAPPY!!!!😁😁

Agreed with you on the disposable nature of today's music. I've been thinking about the more sell thought out essential mixes James Zabiela especially.

Deadmau5, Daft Punk, Rezz. DJs/Producers have put on cool personas to sell "vibes" forever. How is what you're describing different. "Avatar DJs" is just online marketing, describing YT thumbnails

Hasnt this always been the case for every big music artist ever? Every successful artist becomes an avatar of the fans best selves.

There’s layers to all of it. The underground exists but so does this reality.

makes long term success more difficult as an artist. consumers’ “moods” will shift and you might not be on that mood board anymore

I hate not hearing the track ALL the way through.... I am Gen X. Clubbed in the 90's when the DJ took you on a journey.
