Cardio won't eat your gains. The old fear is that running burns muscle, so lifters skip it. Long-term studies say otherwise: a large review of studies that combined cardio with strength training found that it didn't hold back muscle growth or maximal strength. Only explosive power may grow a little less, mostly when both are done in the same session. And cardio gives you what lifting alone doesn't: a fitter heart and lungs. Long stairs, a hike up a hill, a day of walking around a new city, all with breath to spare. Regular aerobic exercise also lowers the risk of heart disease, which is why health guidelines recommend it alongside strength training. In practice: easy cardio is plenty, like cycling, a brisk walk or a light jog, and a sport you enjoy counts too. If you do both in one session, lift first and keep the cardio after it easy. Keep the hard sessions away from leg day and don't overdo it; if your squat starts slipping, ease off the cardio. Above all, keep lifting and eat enough, and the interference stays small. Pick cardio you like: a bike, a swim, a game. On lifting days, an easy ride after the weights. Keep the hard sessions away from leg day. #cardio #strengthtraining #gymtips #squat #gymmotivation
