The comedic wit in this writing is incredible, and what’s even more incredible is just how excellently you weave it into a genuine, serious story. There’s just so much here that is incredible, but that in particular strikes me as noteworthy.

The house being optimized for external threats and the father purposefully ignoring active warning signs from the house is a HAUNTING metaphor. The other people being oblivious 99% of the time also relfects their own intense focus on themselves and their issues, buzz, and development. In any other case that focus wouldn't be harmful but this was the time where everyone needed to be part of something bigger. To see beyond the smoke. There's other metaphors I can't articulate here. This is so well written.
