@throwbackyoutubevideos: The Gravity Falls pilot is an unaired, low-budget test version of the show created by Alex Hirsch in 2010 to pitch the series to Disney Channel. It served as a prototype for the first official episode, "Tourist Trapped," with a similar premise but notable differences in animation, style, and some plot elements. Below is a detailed overview based on available information: ●Overview: •Purpose and Creation: The pilot was developed to convince Disney Channel to greenlight Gravity Falls. Hirsch, a CalArts graduate who had worked on Fish Hooks and The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, created an 11–12-minute pilot using Adobe Flash, animated by House of Cool studios in Toronto •Premise: The pilot follows twins Dipper and Mabel Pines, who are sent to spend the summer with their Great Uncle ("Grunkle") Stan in Gravity Falls, Oregon, where he runs the Mystery Shack, a quirky tourist trap. The episode opens with a flash-forward of the twins fleeing a monster in a golf cart, then rewinds to show their arrival in the town and their encounter with strange phenomena, particularly gnomes posing as Mabel’s boyfriend ●Key Plot Points: •Dipper discovers Dr. Crackpot’s Book of the Damned (a precursor to Journal 3 in the final series) instead of the journal found in "Tourist Trapped" •Mabel’s "boyfriend" is revealed to be gnomes, led by a Gnome King, who want her to become their queen •The twins face a chase scene involving a giant gnome monster, culminating in a crash near the Mystery Shack ●Differences from "Tourist Trapped": •Animation style: The pilot used a mixed-media Flash style similar to Fish Hooks, with less polished visuals, four-fingered hands, and a different color palette. Characters like Dipper and Mabel appear more like young teenagers rather than the pint-sized kids of the final series •Character designs: Dipper wears his pine tree hat from the start, unlike earning it later in the series. Mabel has a different outfit, and Stan’s design includes grey eyebrows and a star on his fez •Missing characters: Soos, a key character in the series, does not appear in the pilot •Plot elements: The pilot includes unique details like the Gnome King’s prehensile beard, a riddle challenge, and references to events like a lake monster encounter or Mabel’s telekinetic powers, some of which inspired later episodes •A "next time" teaser trailer, inspired by Arrested Development, showcased potential future plots (e.g., Dipper escaping a crashing UFO, creepy twins), which were not all used in the final series #gravityfalls #dipperpines #mabelpines #disney #disneychannel #2010
