wanted to tell you guys what happened. Mandana “Donna” Kashanian came to the U.S. from Iran in 1978 on a student visa, She applied for asylum after the Iranian Revolution, but the request was denied. ICE gave her a stay of removal in 1999. This allowed her to live in the U.S. and check in yearly with ICE, but She couldn’t work legally, She couldn’t leave the country and She couldn’t apply for a green card or citizenship directly. She married a U.S. citizen and tried to adjust her status. But immigration denied it because she had a previous marriage abroad, which they said wasn’t clearly resolved. That raised “immigration fraud” concerns, and USCIS denied her application. So technically she tried but was denied at different points. And yeah it’s hard to get an employer to sponsor a H-1B Work Visa then have this company sponsor a green card EB-2 or EB-3 (which is hard to get). She could have gotten a family based immigration if her children are US citizens however She may have been ineligible due to her removal order. 1986 IRCA amnesty (Reagan-era), 1997 NACARA, 2001 LIFE Act and DACA (for younger immigrants) don’t apply for her (Iranian nationals weren’t covered by those bills). Once she had that removal order made her options limited to all hell. I know ppl say “she had 50 years” but they don’t get it’s not that easy but I understand the law is the law. And there needs to be some changes to this.

She had 50 years to become a citizen and get her documents in order. There is no empathy here I’m first generation born and raised in the US. My parents were immigrants and now US citizens.
