The N+1 query problem: why one API call can secretly hit your database 1,001 times. You fetch a list of 1,000 users… then loop over them to grab each user's profile. That innocent loop fires one extra query per row. 1 list query + 1,000 row queries = 1,001 round trips to the database for a single request. Your endpoint is slow and you have no idea why. The fix is eager loading: pull every related row in ONE query with WHERE id IN (…) (a JOIN or a preload). 1,001 calls collapse to 2. This is the single most common performance bug in Rails, Django, Prisma, Hibernate and GraphQL apps.
