@genusgardenwear: Don’t cut them back just yet. (They’ve still got work to do.) Nicola’s leaving her foxgloves standing They’ve had a brilliant year, but now they’re looking a little past it. If you can bear the mess a bit longer, it’s worth it. Those tall stems are full of seed, just not quite ready. Give one a shake: if it rattles, it’s close. Wait until the pods are fully dry and papery, then scatter the seed where you’d like more to grow. Just remember foxgloves are biennial. Seed that germinates this summer will grow into leafy plants next year, and those plants will flower the following year. So if you want foxgloves every summer, it’s worth letting them self-seed each season, otherwise you may find you skip a year.
