@retro.obsessed: On July 2, 1900, the world’s first successful rigid airship flight was launched in Germany. With the LZ 1, Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin’s dream became a reality. When the airship rose slowly into the air, it stunned onlookers with its enormous 420-foot frame. Crowds gathered on boats and along the shore to witness the floating giant. The flight lasted about 18 minutes before the crew made a safe landing due to a mechanical issue. Even though it was brief, the venture proved that controlled, powered flight in a massive airship was possible. It was the beginning of an exciting era in aviation and the start of the Zeppelin legacy. #OnThisDay #AviationHistory #Zeppelin #HistoryOfFlight #HistoryTok
