@leahhopehealth: People don’t like it when you’re fat. You lose weight, and then they say your loose skin is disgusting. You get the skin removed, and now you’re “crazy” for accepting the scars that come with it. There’s always something. Always a reason for someone to criticize. Some will misunderstand you. Others will judge your choices. Many won’t even try to empathize. You’ll never be good enough for the wrong people. But for the right people, you’ve always been enough, exactly as you are. You’re seen. You’re understood. You’re accepted. You’re valued. You’re supported. You’re celebrated. Compassion isn’t about agreeing with every decision, it’s about recognizing that we don’t all start from the same place. We’re not all carrying the same weight. And we’re not all trying to arrive at the same destination. As for the scars? I’m grateful for them. I want the reminder of where I’ve come from. I want the evidence of what I’ve been through. These surgeries were never about erasing my past. They’re about beginning again in a body that feels like home. A body that remembers. A body with history. With stories. With hurt and healing. With pain and hope. With defeat and victory. These scars will tell my story. And it’s not one I’m trying to hide. Thank you for the scars, @modernplasticsurgery.
