backstory: yesterday was a rough start. i bought dutch bros. it was the last day of testing. i was EXHAUSTED. frustrated. ready for the last 12.5 days so i can spend the summer spoiling my kids & living our dreams. dutch bros was gonna get me through the day. i was in the hallway talking to another teacher. suddenly, all my kids (mind you, i didn’t say because i don’t teach half of them) come out of my room. as i start walking that way, one says “it wasn’t me miss” … walk in my room & there’s coffee EVERYWHERE. i almost lose it. i tell enjoy to get out of my room unless they’re supposed to be there. i then walk out, & yes atp, i’m in tears. not because the coffee spilled, but because none of them tried to clean it up, none of them came to me as soon as it happened, they just left. & honestly i was at my wits end. i acknowledge that i also had real life going on that caused me to be on edge. fast forward to testing: my test group comes in (word has spread that ms. madison’s coffee spilled & she’s no in a good mood) they sit & they are SILENT. i mean so quiet you could hear a pin drop. we get through testing, pass out their snacks. i explain why i was upset, apologize if i hurt any of their feelings, moved on. 3rd block rolls around & i see this note up in the corner of my board & honestly? it took everything in me not to cry. one of my testing kids, who is in my 7th block, wrote this for me. now, this kids is one of those kids lol. some days he’s the best, some days he makes me want to pull my hair out. but the last sentence “thank you for being the best teacher i’ve ever had.” 🥹 yesterday was hard. i let emotions of life affect how i showed up for my students. yet, they still reminded me how important i am to them. when 7th block rolled around, i read the note & told them that this note was what kept me around yesterday & their responses? “miss, i would’ve been depressed if you left” “what would we do without you miss” “you are the best miss” 🫶🏽 teaching in today’s times is HARD. battling life, battling kids, battling parents, battling the demands & expectations … but notes like these? the comments? the random hugs? the excitement when they see you … it makes everything worth it. the tears. the stress. the frustration. the laughs. notes like these. it’s worth it all. #teacherappreciationweek #explorepage #middleschoolteacher #elateacher #englishteacher
