Our male will sleep on a pillow on the floor when he gets warm. If he gets in the females dog bed, she attacks even though she has never slept in it!

Ruby started doing this recently. I have to beg her to sleep on my bed. She just loves her donut bed so much. I did find that if I sleep facing the wall she loves sleeping back to back and will sometimes share my pillow.
