It’s because they are too lazy to cancel plans so just let whatever you’ve already arranged go ahead and then end things. I had an ex come down for a weekend as usual (we were long distance) and he went home Sunday. On the Wednesday he broke up with me over Skype. He had met someone else so knew he was already planning on leaving when he visited but he’d already paid for train tickets and I lived somewhere rural so he was scared of being asked to leave and having nowhere to go. Ghosting someone this severely is so awful though. At least I got to tell him to his face what a dick he was when we met up to switch back our things!!
