Leavenworth was my first place I lived long term out of state (born in idaho but grew up in Utah) and I LOVED it. I cried when I left. I’d definitely go back.

El Dorado Hills California is about an hour and 45 minutes from Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe is very tourist oriented on the weekends. I would worry about getting snowed in and the wild fires in the area. El Dorado Hills is below the snow line and below most of the wildfires. It’s about an hour and 15 minutes from downtown Sacramento about 2 1/2 hours from San Francisco. Folsom Lakes 30 minutes away the river is 15 minutes away and the homes in El Dorado Hills are pretty nice. Yosemite and other national parks are within three hours of El Dorado Hills.

They haven't been to Lake Balboa in Los Angeles. Just like Tahoe but no snow in the winter
