When I lived in DC, I used to do the DC to Chicago line because it stops in my hometown in Indiana. It’s a brutal trip, especially in coach, but I was broke and it was more door to door than flying.

I did ATL-DC and back with my kids. Don’t recommend because it’s all overnight but it is so easier, faster, and more comfortable to fly. But it was during Covid so safer. Planning on some sort of long trip with decent daytime hours.
