@keds_economist: You probably think of Medicaid as something poor people get and underestimate its role in our economy and society. The #taxbill #obbb includes the latest cut to Medicaid in program history, and we’ll all suffer for it. #medicaid #taxcuts #opioid #fetanyl

Why should you care? Because empathy for others is one of the greatest qualities humans have. 12 million people are going to be stressed, at risk, and could possibly die. Why would anyone want another human to feel that way?

Patients with private health insurance will pay for this through increased healthcare costs, which will of course be shifted into health insurance premiums and cost shares. We have always paid for the uninsured through cost shifting.

Explain to them how it will directly affect them, their employer sponsored insurance is going to skyrocket, ER’s will be overwhelmed and hospitals will close. Medical people including techs will lose their jobs

We can't make everyone have everything, people will be rich, people will be poor, but what we can do, what is fair to do when you have as much as we have, is give people who are poor the essentials, health, food, some kind of transportation, then they can live. Society is about us working together for each other.

The establishment republicans do not do nuance. They see simple cause and effects only and are not willing to see they are making major cuts to the webs of our society

How about the population with mental health disease? I’d assume majority of them are probably on Medicaid.

I’m so happy you chose my specific field to illustrate your point. I can’t tell you how scared I am about what’s coming in the next year or so. Prevention goes through the same channels as treatment.

Private insurance premiums are going to explode. Also insurance such as auto and workers comp will be billed higher rates to make up the difference

I received Medicaid in Indiana from 2021-23 while I waited for 2 years for my SSDI claim to be approved. During that time, the only way I could get to the doctor was by the ride service provided by Medicaid. So for a lot of people Medicaid is the only way they even get to see a doctor.

I see you reminding people we can reverse this but I’d like to hear you discuss how long it would take. Let’s say we flip in midterms and start reversing. How long until we fix all the things they burnt to the ground in the meantime? That’s my big concern. Does it happen in our lifetime?

Although I agree with your take on this, I suspect that most of the people directly affected by Medicaid cuts voted to put Trump. They invited this.

Official response from my Senator about Medicaid cuts: “Applies work requirements for Medicaid eligibility to all able-bodied adults under age 64. Individuals would be exempted from this requirement if they are: Individuals who are blind, have a substance use disorder,” …etc. Which one is true? Perhaps they preserved this function of Medicaid.
