News reports from February and March 2024 describe an incident in Lancaster, California where a man with two machetes was shot and killed by Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies at an Albertsons supermarket. The man had previously attacked a clerk at a gas station and entered the supermarket with the weapons. Deputies tried to de-escalate the situation and used less-lethal options, but the man reportedly charged at them with the machetes, prompting them to open fire.
