I mostly prefer a lager but if I choose and ale I prefer a stout. It sounds incongruous but each offers a profile that I enjoy even if they differ dramatically. Totally delighted with your explanation here.

I know angry orchards lands under as an ale, but how do they mix all the flavor in with the beer in order to experiment with all the different flavors. Can you put whatever in with the yeast?

Nice overview and explanation that covers both styles pretty well. While you could have chosen other beers in both ale and lager categories, it is interesting that you included Lambics as ales and a Kolsch as a lager. Lambics get their flavor profile predominantly from bacterial fermentation instead of ale yeast fermentation, so it probably lies outside of the lager/ale categories. A Kolsch is technically an ale since it uses ale yeast, but is fermented at lager temperatures. There are other styles that are outside the normal ale/lager conventions also, like Steam, Alt, Gueze, etc.

*Lagers take longer to ferment*, they have to ‘lager’. Both take the same time to ‘brew’.
