No. Get a proper Hawk. Use a proper plaster paddle. it's bigger and slower. Fast and small is not as good. Clean the tools. Clean the Trowel have it shiny and a good edge. Rub the trowel with fine sand paper. Make sure the handles are clean. When pulling out the whisk. See how much a deep hole it leaves. I leave a 20 mm dip. The first coat just cover the wall. The plaster board absorbs the water. The second coat is slightly thicker Don't get the plaster from a bucket, use a table. you don't want to have plaster on your hands and tools. Keep tidy and clean. Keep tools shiny and clean

honestly, that looks amazing, especially for self taught. my trade used to be kitchen fitting, which set me up to work comfortably with most aspects of renovation work, but skimming is where I absolutely draw the line

Start with your plaster the texture of Angel Delight, tip the hawk, miss the trowel, scrape it off the floor, try again, wonder how to fix the bald patches, catch the corner of the trowel on the plaster, fix the damage, notice you're only half way across the wall and your plaster has turned into plasticine, wonder where to dump it, clog the toilet, flood the bathroom, call a plasterer
